Through engagement and developing rapport, the Peer Support Specialist will provide peer recovery support services to individuals experiencing homelessness who also have a substance use disorder, mental health disorder, and/or co-occurring disorders to begin and maintain a path to housing and recovery.
Responsibilities:
- Provide support and assistance to individuals in need, including those experiencing behavioral health or addiction issues.
- Conduct assessments to determine the needs and goals of individuals seeking support.
- Develop and implement individualized support plans based on client needs and goals.
- Provide crisis intervention and management as needed.
- Collaborate with other professionals, such as social workers and mental health counselors, to ensure comprehensive care for clients.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client interactions and progress.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current Peer Recovery Specialist certification preferred, or have the ability to obtain within 24 months from date of hire from MAPCB - Previous experience in a similar role, such as mentoring, social work, or behavioral health, is required.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and crisis management protocols.
- Familiarity with motivational interviewing principles and practices.
- Understanding of mental health counseling and addiction counseling approaches.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
