The Assistant Director - Processing supports the director in the administration of a comprehensive program of student financial assistance for all campuses of the college.
This includes U.
S.
Department of Education (ED) sponsored Title IV programs, student work-study employment, state, institutional, CSM Foundation and private sources.
Also, he/she acts as the director in his/her absence.
The College of Southern Maryland conducts background checks in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the College's staff and students.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities As part of the FAD leadership team, implements college policies and procedures for designated areas of student financial assistance, including satisfactory academic progress, verification, college awards (grants/scholarships), state awards, the processing of all educational loans and monitoring the Pell Grant program.
Ensures a high level of customer service is upheld throughout the office to include in person, phone and e-mail.
Assists director with the production, submission and maintenance of any and all institutional reports to appropriate agencies relating to the above-mentioned programs.
Works with data collection and queries this data to produce reports for analysis.
Oversees annual setup in Colleague, including, but not limited the creation of the financial aid year, communication codes, financial aid application rules & document requirements.
Oversees the specialist staff who are responsible for frontline operations, both in person and over the phone.
Specialist staff are responsible for the processing of FAFSA applications, verification documentation and other financial aid documents.
Oversees part time & student assistant / FWS staff, as applicable.
Responsible for the awarding and management of the Federal Work Study (FWS) program.
Is responsible for coordinating the successful administration of the FWS across multiple CSM departments, including HRD, PAY, SES and OPP.
Reconciles FWS program earnings to ensure CSM remains compliant with ED regulations including community service and tutoring requirements.
Primary verification specialist, responsible for processing of financial aid applications selected for verification and ensuring compliance with ED verification processing requirements.
Maintains contact with faculty, department chairs, and staff relating to the Financial Aid.
Works closely with the Registrar, Admissions, Bursar, Athletic offices.
Involved with professional organizations to maintain updated material as it relates to Financial Aid.
Ensures coordinated services to students as a member of the Student Equity and Success division.
Ensures continued compliance of ED and Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) guidelines and requirements relating to federal student assistance programs.
Responsible for maintaining office budget and supplies.
Assists the Director with the scholarship & grant budget.
In the absence of the Director, attends meetings to represent FAD.
Maintains contact with faculty, department chairs, and staff relating to the Financial Aid.
Additional Duties:
Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Education and Training Bachelor's Degree 5 years of relevant experience, higher education preferred Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work independently with professional integrity and discretion.
Ability to organize and prioritize extensive workload daily.
Physical Requirements:
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
